Evo.gg Champion
We designed and built evo.gg for Evo, the world’s largest and longest-running fighting game tournament, with pages for its global events and a voting platform where the community chooses its Evo Awards winners.
A community platform
The Evo Awards are decided by the fighting game community. We built the voting platform on evo.gg where fans choose their winners in categories such as Player of the Year and Moment of the Year.
Peak traffic
When voting opens, a lot of people arrive at the same time. Performance was a key objective, so the platform was built to stay fast and stable while the community voted together.
One home
Evo runs tournaments in Las Vegas, Tokyo, Nice and Singapore. The site brings them together in one place, with event pages that carry stream schedules, game rules, venue maps and FAQs for players and fans.
Evo needed the platform live in time for its awards vote, with a large community waiting to use it. That meant building and testing it over the Christmas period, on a very tight timescale.
We worked closely with Evo to fit the build to their scope and requirements, and concentrated on what had to be ready for the vote going live. The voting system needed to cope with large numbers of people at once, so we planned for that from the start. The same site also carries Evo’s event pages, news and a timeline of its history.

Evo came to us with two goals. First, give its global events a single home, where players and fans can find the dates, schedules, streams and rules for each tournament, alongside news and the history of the series.
Second, build a voting system for the Evo Awards that performs well when a large part of the community votes at the same time. Everything had to be live in time for voting to open.

The platform went live in time for the Evo Awards vote, and the fighting game community used it to choose the winners announced on stage in Los Angeles.
As with any platform that takes a lot of traffic at once, there were a few bumps along the way, and as we should have, we resolved them quickly and effectively. Evo.gg now carries Evo’s events in Las Vegas, Tokyo, Nice and Singapore. Evo is one of the most exciting platforms we’ve worked on for a long time, because of its long history in tournaments and the challenge of delivering it in a very short timescale for a huge number of visitors.
